A Milestone Reached.
A Vision Moving Forward.
We’re excited to share that Harlan’s Place has received all final development approvals and orders. With this important milestone complete, we are focused on securing the financing needed to begin construction. To dedicate our time and resources to this next step, we are pausing this year’s annual gala. Thank you for your continued encouragement and belief in our vision.

Every individual, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to live a life of purpose and joy.
At Harlan’s Place, our mission is to create a nurturing and empowering environment for adults with Down Syndrome. We are committed to providing not just housing, but a home. A place where individuals with Down Syndrome can thrive, lead fulfilling lives, and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Who We Are.
Welcome to Harlan’s Place, a 501(c)3 organization. Our story is one of love, hope, and dedication to creating a bright future for our beloved son, Harlan. Our journey began with a simple yet profound desire: to ensure that Harlan, who has Down Syndrome, can lead an independent life in an environment that mirrors the opportunities available to individuals without disabilities.
The Community.
Harlan's Place is not just a residence; it's a purposefully designed housing community located in the heart of the Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Our community consists of 60 individual apartment units, each crafted to provide a warm and supportive environment for adults diagnosed with Down Syndrome, or developmental disabilities who do not require licensed care for physical or mental diagnoses.
Stay Connected as Our Community Takes Shape
Harlan’s Place is a planned community for adults with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, envisioned to support independence, connection, and belonging.
We have received all final development approvals and orders and are now focused on securing the financing needed to begin construction. An opening date has not yet been established, and housing applications are not currently open. Join our interest list to receive updates on our progress, future housing opportunities, and ways to support the vision.
"This is the best news ever! We moved our family from Ann Arbor Michigan 10 years ago. Our youngest daughter is almost 19 with Down syndrome. We assumed someday we would have to move from this area to find good independent housing for her. Now, your dream is our dream! Wow! What a blessing this is for us!"

Harlan’s Place seeks to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in the lives of adults with Down syndrome, their families, and the broader community.
